I have been teaching English for over 40 years – all ages, all abilities in a variety of schools – single sex, mixed, independent, tutoring.
I loved being Headteacher for the last 8 years of my career and I continued to teach English alongside that role because my belief is that children make schools, not policies or programmes and I know that I can enable learners to be successful.
I am as energetic and passionate about teaching English as I was when I started and if I was asked if I would do it all over again, the reply would be a resounding ‘YES’.
I have learned more from the children over the years than I would ever have imagined or than they will ever know; it has truly been a journey of challenge, joy, laughter and success.
I love being with children, getting to know how they think and watching them learn and progress; I love the delight they experience when they are successful and the further confidence and self-worth that that brings.
There is no short cut to learning and though students sometimes find that difficult, it is exciting, dynamic and energising once they gain confidence and self-belief – I believe I am adaptable and have the necessary skills through a patient approach, which combines challenge and stretch to ensure success every time.
