I have been teaching for 5 years. I have predominantly supported students age 8-20 in Maths and Economics, teaching Maths up to A-Level and Economics to an undergraduate level. I have also assisted students in preparation for the 11+ and 13+ examinations (including Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.)
For older students, my teaching style is student-led. I ask students to relay any topics they are finding particularly difficult in a given week, and prepare tailored lessons according to those target areas. For younger students, who may find it harder to identify which areas they find difficult, I match my teaching with work they are doing in school to reinforce new content. I construct an open atmosphere in which students feel comfortable and free to ask any questions they have; I was made to feel embarrassed in school for asking questions in my own French lessons, so this is something that I think is important to mitigate against. I like to bring real-world applications to my lessons, to give context to topics which may at first appear abstract.
I love tutoring because of the direct impact it can have on a young person’s life, and seeing students develop both academically and in confidence is incredibly rewarding.
