I received a Reuben Scholarship and Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Scholarship to read English at the University of Cambridge, and have spent the last few years working for BBC Bitesize, writing and producing videos for 6-12 year-olds across the curriculum, specialising in English, Maths, Music and Latin.
Working closely with kids and parents while researching for my scripts, I became interested in private tutoring, and now teach for a variety of ages, both generally and for specific qualifications including 7+, 11+ and GCSEs. I have a particular interest in working with the younger age groups, and helping the transition into school and supporting early development.
I’m a keen and versatile thinker, with an engaging sunny style, able to synthesise information quickly and nurture any student’s ability through the creation of fun and supportive learning environments. I really enjoy my lessons as I’m a big believer in the unique viewpoint of each individual – it’s always interesting to hear the variety of perspectives! I encourage tutees to really grasp the information, rather than just rote learning or regurgitating facts, and it’s great to get to a stage where we can discuss the material in depth. Exams are important to me, but the most exciting thing to see is when a tutee has that ‘aha!’ of realisation.
