Nolan Fell

Maths PGCE Kings' College London 2004. BSc Environmental Sciences University of East Anglia and MSc Imperial College London.

I am a very experienced maths teacher having taught the full age and ability range from 11 to 18 including Further Maths A level and the International Baccalaureate.

I have taught maths online since 2020 and have had success with students at KS3, KS4 and KS5.

I am passionate about teaching and develop good relationships with students enabling them to engage well with maths and develop proper mathematical understanding. Tutoring is a different learning experience to being in a classroom and offers the learner the opportunity to address areas that perhaps were misunderstood in class or were missed. I am happy to direct lessons, but the learner is also welcome to set the agenda that they want to persue.

I have been successful working with students aiming to achieve top grades and GCSE and A level and students who find maths a challenge and need some extra support. At KS3 I have successfully supported students preparing for 13+ exams and international students who want access to the English maths curriculum.

I have worked extensively with students with special educational needs such as ADHD and autism and create a comfortable learning environment for students with a wide range of learning styles.

I very much enjoy teaching maths at all levels and find many aspects of the subject fascinating and beautiful!

Saul Barrett

(BA) English, 2:1, University of Cambridge. Foundation Diploma in Acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).

Hi, my name is Saul,

I teach 7+, 8+, 10+, 11+ exams, help prep for Oxbridge applications and interviews, as well as additional language support to all ages for English and German.

I believe tutoring sessions should feel different to a student’s school-day: I like to tailor my lessons to each student’s particular needs, giving them the space to take ownership of their learning and work in a way that suits them.

I have extensive experience working in nurseries, primary, and secondary schools. This includes working with children who have autism and ADHD, as well as other special educational needs (SEND), whereby I have gained specific techniques that foster a happy learning environment for students of all levels.

As a Cambridge University graduate I enjoy helping demystify the Oxbridge application process for prospective students. It’s a real joy to assist applicants in refining their personal statements and prepare for interview. I see this as a really fun process in which students build confidence, think laterally, and deepen their relationship with their subject.

I like to keep parents and caregivers up to date on their child’s progress, making sure that everyone is satisfied with the pace and focus of learning.

I take great satisfaction in seeing a child learn. It’s a joy and a privilege to help them develop their intellect and bolster the confidence with which they go into school.

Mohammed Elomky

Queen Mary University of London: MSc - Data Analytics. BSc - Mathematics with Finance and Accounting

I started my tutoring journey when I began my A2 Level education, starting as a Maths tutoring assistant. Finding a sense of fulfilment and achievement, I continued to broaden my horizon into the field of tutoring. At KS2 I teach a lot of students for 10+ and 11+ exams for grammar and independent schools in South West London. For 10+ and 11+ exams, as well as maths, I also teach English and reasoning. At secondary school level I teach maths, Economics and Business, from year 7 to A Levels.

I’ve had the challenge of working with numerous students, all of whom have different skill sets and academic goals. I have experience with various examination syllabi, including IGCSE and ISEB. I am experienced in adapting between online and in-person teaching methods and finding various teaching methods to best engage students.

As I was personally once a recipient of tutoring in Maths, I understand the importance of continuous encouragement, support, and independent thinking from tutors. It is the same encouragement, support, and independent thinking that provided me with a sense of adoration and fondness for learning and especially mathematics and I aim to pass this enthusiasm onto my students.

Stuart Smith

BSc Chemistry, PGCE in Secondary Science, Professional IB Teaching Qualification. Experienced A level, IB, GCSE and Science SATS examiner.

I am a very experienced Secondary Science teacher with over 20 years of school experience teaching and tutoring from key stage 3 to Key stage 5. I also prepare students for selective entrance exams.

I am a very successful teacher. I have gained experience of teaching years 7 to 11 Science and several years teaching A levels in Chemistry and Physics. Recently I was an examiner for Cambridge A level Chemistry. I have also successfully taught GCSE Maths. A large component of my degree included Maths.

I have used my experience to develop a dynamic positive teaching style. Across the academic spectrum students find popular science in the media engaging and I make full use of this. I am always looking for new ways to inspire and encourage pupils to improve their knowledge and understanding.

Science is an essential skill for life in the 21st Century throughout the world more than ever before with the challenges we face. Because of this I want to promote the highest standards of learning. The best way to do this is to convey high expectations from the beginning, produce creative enjoyable opportunities for learning, then take time to reflect on and celebrate the outcome.

My great experience of tutoring combined with my work as an examiner has made me an expert at getting the best out of a pupil and giving them the opportunity to succeed in their learning.

Meryemnur Enver

Comrie Saville-Ferguson

BA Hons English, University of Cambridge

I received a Reuben Scholarship and Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Scholarship to read English at the University of Cambridge, and have spent the last few years working for BBC Bitesize, writing and producing videos for 6-12 year-olds across the curriculum, specialising in the arts.

Working closely with kids and parents while researching for my scripts, I became interested in private tutoring, and now teach for a variety of ages, both generally and for specific qualifications including 7+, 11+ and GCSEs.

I’m a keen and versatile thinker, with an engaging sunny style, able to synthesise information quickly and nurture any student's ability through the creation of fun and supportive learning environments. I really enjoy my lessons as I’m a big believer in the unique viewpoint of each individual - it’s always interesting to hear the variety of perspectives! I encourage tutees to really grasp the information, rather than just rote learning or regurgitating facts, and it's great to get to a stage where we can discuss the material in depth. Exams are important to me, but the most exciting thing to see is when a tutee has that 'aha!' of realisation.

I enjoy my work and strive to understand the nuances of every child’s personality and learning style. My philosophy is that children need to be happy so that they all learn, but not necessarily, in the same way on the same day.

Melisa Jefferies

BA in English and Classical Literature; MA in Arts; PGCE; MA in Special Needs.

I have been working as a teacher for 8 years now and have found that what I enjoy most is installing a sense of confidence and enjoyment in my lessons. I firmly believe that in order for a child to succeed, they must first feel comfortable with their environment and how they learn, then being able to explore their subject matter more in depth. I am well known amongst my colleagues for being a patient tutor who succeeds in plugging gaps in learning whilst making this enjoyable and something to look forward to.

In addition to being a classroom teacher, I have also undertaken an MA in special needs as this was of interest to me. I understand that each child learns at their pace and in their own way and so tapping into this has given me the skills to access how children approach different tasks and how to encourage an inquisitive approach. I have a wide range of experience with children with SEN and enjoy learning from them immensely.

I am able to teach English and Maths from KS1 to KS2 and English up to GCSE level. I also prepare students for entrance exams for selective schools at 7+ to 11+. I am able to understand how difficult school entrance exams can be having sat them myself as a child.

Sarah Doble

University. of Wolverhampton: MSc Psychology of Mental Health and Well-being; University of Gloucestershire: Overseas Trained Teacher Programme; University of Minnesota: BA Teaching German and English as a Second Language, Concentration in Linguistics

My teaching journey has been a varied journey leading me from the USA to Germany, South Korea, the United Kingdom and to Thailand. Over the past 18 years, I have worked as a class teacher developing English and language skills through a variety of methods, settings and strategies. Through these experiences I also learned a love of Mathematics and deepened my subject knowledge across Key Stage 1, 2 and a bit of Key Stage 3 in the core subjects within the National Curriculum.

After working with very talented teachers and administrators in some wonderful international schools abroad, I have refined my teaching strategies to individualise learning experiences for my students, taking into account all the little steps they need to feel confident, creative and knowledgeable in the skills that they learn. My style of teaching and tutoring is to ensure children can make links across the curriculum and in real-life contexts. My lessons vary from lively games to practical learning activities, to focussed activities for practising a new skill, and opportunities to show off and display what we have learnt.

I am an open, curious and flexible teacher/tutor who finds ways to connect with every child. Getting to know a child's interests, likes, dislikes and goals, helps me to find ways to inspire a love of learning.

I have an MSc in psychology and training and experience in teaching SEND pupils. Working with SEND pupils is very close to my heart. Many of my students through Hyde Tutoring have additional needs ranging form dyslexia, to ASD to dyscalculia and ADHD.

When I was young, I was not the best reader, which made my school life difficult. I felt my confidence drop and my lust for learning ebb. It wasn't until I started learning foreign languages with a teacher that believed in me that I began developing a love of learning and the confidence to try new things. In my experience as an educator, helping students to develop their confidence and self-esteem, has proven to ignite interests and improve skills in order to tackle critical thinking, foster language development and develop reasoning skills for problem solving. I believe in every student's capacity to learn by creating challenges that stimulate excellence.

Bianca Rayne

BA (Hons), 1st, University of Portsmouth. Musical Theatre, (specialising in children’s theatre).

Hi, my name is Bianca and I’m thrilled to tell you a bit about myself. Throughout my tutoring career, I’ve had the pleasure of working with students from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Key Stage 3 (KS3), covering a wide range of subjects. I am able to teach the full primary curriculum. I have had the privilege of working in many settings, from the London independent school sector, to a hospital in Vienna, to homeschooling, to 1:1 after school tutoring. I tutor in person and online via Zoom.

I also have experience in preparing students for the 11+ and 7+ exams, supporting them through the preparation process and helping them succeed in these crucial assessments.

One aspect that sets me apart as a tutor is my passion for Special Educational Needs (SEN) work and also a desire to support children who are going through difficult times in their lives and overcoming barriers (medically, academically and emotionally). I firmly believe that every student deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their learning challenges. Embracing a philosophy of learning through play, I’ve seen firsthand how a fun and engaging approach can ignite a love for learning in my students. I am dedicated to creating personalised, interactive and exciting lessons that keep my students motivated and eager to explore new concepts.

I used to work at a very well renowned independent school in west London, working 1:1 with for a deaf child. This experience opened my eyes to the importance of inclusive education and the impact of personalised learning. Witnessing the joy on the child’s face as they understood concepts and thrived academically inspired me to pursue private tutoring, where I could make a difference in the lives of even more students.

Following this role I became a homeschooling teacher for a child undergoing medical treatment in Austria. During this time, I learned the true meaning of adaptability and compassion. I was responsible for 100% of his education, ensuring he remained abreast with the UK curriculum (whilst also preparing him for 11+ exams!). I tailored lessons to accommodate the child’s needs while maintaining a sense of normalcy in their educational journey and building a smooth transition back into school life was challenging but successful and incredibly fulfilling.

My goal in teaching is to create a supportive, fun and encouraging learning environment. I understand that each student is unique, and I tailor my teaching methods to suit their individual learning styles. Whether it’s tackling challenging subjects, building confidence, or enhancing study and test-taking skills, I am committed to helping my students reach their full potential.

Ella Lane

PGCE, University College London. Psychology BSc, University of Reading

Having graduated from UCL with a Primary PGCE, I have been teaching in London as a Reception class teacher since September 2021. I am qualified to teach all primary school ages. As a tutor I am particularly suited to working with children in Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2, ensuring that the foundations of their understanding are secure, allowing them to flourish as they progress into the next academic year.

As an individual I am committed and motivated. I work my hardest to provide high quality care for children both in my class and throughout the school. I consider myself to be reliable and pro-active. My time spent teaching has developed my ability to plan and deliver lessons covering all areas of the curriculum, ensuring that my lessons are inclusive and can be differentiated to meet the needs of all learners. I really enjoy working with children of a range of ages and I thoroughly enjoy my teaching career.

When tutoring, I work collaboratively with the child and their family to develop a positive, trusting relationship that allows the child to progress to meet their full potential. I carefully assess the child’s starting point and consider areas for development. My teaching is adapted to meet their specific needs and boost their confidence across any areas of the curriculum that they may be finding challenging. I also have experience of working with children with SEND and believe that with the necessary support every child can be successful. My teaching practice is rooted in kindness and I feel passionately about the progress that is possible in children when provided with opportunities to succeed.

Alex McMorran

Interdisciplinary BA in Music and Maths from UBC (Vancouver Canada). MFA acting, LAMDA.

I teach Maths from 11+ up to A level, and all the sciences at 13+ and GCSE level. I also am very experienced in helping prepare for the American SAT exams. I’ve been teaching for over 20 years.

I particularly enjoy working with students in a tuition setting because as I get to know them, I can find ways to bring subjects to life by tailoring lessons to their strengths and interests. I think it’s very important to try and find connections between the different subjects and topics students are learning at school, as well as setting them in wider context.

I am also passionate about the arts, especially acting. I strongly believe that my creativity and love of the arts is what makes me different to many other maths and science teachers. I use my creativity to make lessons fun and engaging and to find new ways to capture the interest of students that have previously shied away from subjects like maths and science. I also like working on maths and sciences with self-described “artsy” students, and showing them that not only is it possible to be good at and interested in both the arts and the sciences, but also the two reinforce and complement each other in all kinds of interesting and fruitful ways!

Becca Ryan

BA Honours, English, University of Hull. Primary PGCE with QTS, University of Hull.

I am a full time primary school tutor. I am also a mother to two young children. For Hyde Tutoring I specialise in entrance exams, from 7+ to 11+, for independent schools in London. Recently I prepared a 7+ student for St Paul’s Juniors, he did brilliantly in his exams and he is now thriving at St Paul’s.

For nearly 15 years I have worked as a primary school teacher. I have worked at “outstanding” graded schools. I have taught year 1 to years 6. Within my role, I also prepared students for 11+ entry to local grammar schools.

I also have experience teaching English as a foreign language. I have predominately taught students based in China, working with students from 5 years old upwards. My lessons are interactive and fun and, for younger students, I use phonics at the heart to embed the English language. Resources will be translated to begin with, to ensure my students can access everything.

For Hyde Tutoring I teach fully online. So I am experienced in making lessons interactive and engaging, to maintain a student’s interest and to get the maximum out of them.

Adem Hursit

PhD, Mathematical Physics, Queen Mary and Westfield College. University of London, MSci Theoretical Physics Degree.

I am a Mathematical Physics PhD graduate from Queen Mary University of London. Enthusiastic individual with extensive teaching experience from KS3 to undergraduate level (over 1000 hours). I have experience with educating students in difficult topics including General Relativity, Quantum Mechanics etc. I am adaptable with good improvisational and problem solving abilities both physical and mental.

Since completing my PhD I decided to participate in independent research as research positions in my field are very limited. Alongside my research, I carry out my other passion: private tuition. I've taught students in Maths and Physics since 2012 in a wide variety of capacities including: one-to-one tuition, online lessons, revision workshops for exams and tutorial groups at every level. My students improve their grades significantly through my tuition. I am trained in various methods of effective teaching and communication; as such I'm experienced in explaining complicated ideas in an easily understood manner. I believe my students benefit immensely from my knowledge of the sciences, since I can answer any things that they may be curious about.

Ricardo Chichizo

Masters in Business and Finance, Masters in Engineering.

Having started my career working in finance, I had a career change to teaching as I am passionate about education.

I teach mathematics and science (specialising in chemistry and physics) working with Key stage 2 students to A Level. I teach many children for entrance exams, especially 11+ and 13+ and also for GCSE, A Level and IB exams. My own children went through the London independent school system; I prepared them for the entrance exams and supported their learning up to their A Levels, they are now at leading universities. My students achieve excellent results - a third achieving top marks, and over 80% achieving grade 7 or higher.

I have always enjoyed teaching; I first tutored when I was at high school! I also taught whilst at university, working as an assistant professor.

Cynthia Harding

BEd Hons 2:1, University of Sussex. Diploma in Psychology, London Guildhall University. MSc Educational Neuroscience, University of London - Birkbeck/UCL.

I have taught for over 30 years in South East London. My area of expertise is English, where I have specialised in supporting children with SEN, teaching literacy and phonological awareness. I teach English from Key Stage 1 to GCSE. I also teach Science and Maths up to the end of Key Stage 3. As a tutor is it possible to understand an individual’s strengths and weakness and teach to their strengths, thus enabling each child to find strategies to overcome difficulties. I love to watch children master new skills and therefore succeed. I enjoy creating a relaxed, safe and fun environment in which they can learn and grow.

Matilda Nartey

BA with Honours and MA from Goldsmiths University, PGCE (Primary) at LSBU.

I am a qualified primary school teacher and I have been teaching all subjects across the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 curricula, in maintained schools. I have worked with a range of students from ages 3 to 13.  I am currently working in an alternative provision setting, as well as tutoring for Hyde Tutoring. I am proud of my ability to engage children with learning and aim to make lessons active and encouraging. When tutoring, it is crucial to establish a strong and positive working relationship and to celebrate each step of progress a child makes. I have experience with children with a variety of educational needs: I am experienced at stretching the attainment of higher ability children and also at securing the progress of children struggling academically. I adapt each of my tutoring sessions according to the needs of each student, slowly building their confidence through scaffolding, encouragement, challenges and ultimately fostering independence so they can be their best.

Jessica Bonfante

University of Kent: BA Honours- English and American Literature and Philosophy (First-Class Honours), awarded a Scholarship for Academic Excellence. A-levels: A*, A, A, A.

Since graduating in 2016, I have dedicated myself to tutoring, guided by a philosophy that emphasises hard work and the belief that with dedication, we can achieve any goal. This mindset, which fueled my own academic success, is what I strive to instill in my students. I believe in nurturing a child's innate talents and building a strong framework for them to flourish, fostering self-assurance and capability, and empowering them to reach their full potential.

I specialise in preparing children for entrance exams to London's leading grammar and independent schools. Under my guidance, students have gained admission to prestigious schools such as St Paul’s, Westminster, King’s College, Henrietta Barnett, Tiffin, Nonsuch, City of London, Latymer, Dulwich, JAGS, Alleyn’s, Wimbledon High, Putney High, Emanuel, Francis Holland and many more. In addition, many of my students have been offered academic scholarships in recognition of outstanding results in their entrance exams.

I teach maths, English, and reasoning at 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+, and 11+. Having successfully prepared students for exams at all these entry points, I have developed a thorough knowledge of the process. I also teach English language and literature through all of KS3 and KS4.

In addition to preparing students for exams, I have taught EAL to adults and children since 2018. examples of my EAL experience include: teaching conversational English to an adult learner (face to face), Cambridge International English Testing System (IELTS) qualification to a 10 year old in Beijing (for which he achieved the highest result possible) and I currently teach two French children (face to face) who attend bilingual schools (Belleville Wix Academy and Lycee Charles De Gaulle) as English is their second language.

My extensive experience and passion for empowering learners drive my work as a professional tutor. I am dedicated to helping students achieve academic success and develop the confidence and skills to thrive. My priority is to create a supportive and nurturing learning environment where every student feels valued and empowered. Carl Fulghieri

Graduate Diploma in Economics, The London School of Economics and Political Science; Bachelors of Arts in Economics (with Distinction) and Philosophy, University of Pennsylvania

I have a decade of experience tutoring pupils in levels ranging from the primary to undergraduate. While my particular focus is maths and statistics, I have worked with students to improve their writing, English, critical thinking skills and French language fluency. I have successfully helped pupils improve performance on standardised exams (in particular the SAT) as well as catch up on demanding coursework and ultimately improve their performance at school and their grades in their exams. I am very experienced in exam preparations: I teach students for 11+ exams, GCSE, A Level and the SAT.

My approach seeks to both improve outcomes in assignments and exams as well as train students to be lifelong learners. In setting student-specific objectives for a cycle of lessons, I like to establish concrete goals related to the pupil's curriculum and broader horizons for them to strive for as learners in their own right. I find my joy for learning is multiplied when I can encourage it in the next generation of students. While it is easy to get bogged down in the instrumental demands of coursework and assessments, I believe in a process of patience and encouragement required for cultivating a student's own curiosity.

Romina Dapoto

Psychology Licentiate degree (6 years program) Teaching of Psychology degree (4 years program) Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Graduate Certificate in Spanish Language Teaching to Adults (GCSLTA). University of Roehampton and Instituto Cervantes, London, UK Graduate Certificate - ELE teachers of children, Instituto Cervantes New York, US.

¡Hola! My name is Romina and I am originally from Argentina. I have been teaching Spanish for over 15 years and I love working closely with my students to encourage a love of learning while helping them succeed and achieve their goals.

I have taught students of all ages in different settings: primary and secondary schools, after school clubs, language academies, corporate and private tutoring. I love the variety of my job and I enjoy planning my lessons to meet each person's needs, learning style and interests. I can help with exam preparation; I have experience preparing students for their GCSEs, A levels, International Baccalaureate and DELE exams.

I am currently working as a Spanish teacher in a language school in central London teaching adults face to face and online. I also work as a tutor with children, teenagers and adults who seek learning Spanish for different reasons. Some are complete beginners, while others speak the language at home and want to improve their reading and writing skills.

Thanks to my experience teaching children, I learned the importance of having a playful approach and I aim to make every lesson fun, engaging and meaningful.

As a tutor, one of the aspects I enjoy the most is the opportunity to develop confidence, joy and independence in my students. It is very rewarding to witness their progress and enthusiasm as they improve their language skills and open their minds to cultural differences. I see myself as a facilitator in this process, and I work hard to create a friendly and safe atmosphere.

Eleanor Colville

University of Cambridge, BA(Hons) English Literature, 1st/2:1

I teach exam preparation for the 7+, 11+ and 13+, as well as teaching Science (Key Stage 1- Key Stage 3), History (GCSE) and English Language and Literature (GCSE and A Level).

Alongside private tuition I also teach children English and Drama classes in primary schools across South London and lead creative writing workshops.

I like to encourage a curious and fun approach to learning. I find empowering students to take confidence in their own interests, talents and resilience alongside a strong focus on thorough exam preparation and knowledge of proper exam technique gives children the tools they need not just to perform well academically but also to foster a real and long-lasting enjoyment in a subject. The joy of one to one tuition is that children can learn in a way that best suits them and I make a special effort to tailor my lessons to suit a child's individual interests, pace and needs.

Bethany Cockshutt

Exeter University, BSc.

I have been working as a tutor for Hyde Tutoring since 2019. Over the years I have taught many students. I have taught maths to both primary and secondary aged pupils.

I teach maths and science up to A Level. I have taught many of the Hyde Tutoring revision courses, preparing students for 7+, 8+, 10+ and 11+ exams, for Hyde Tutoring and I have taught many students 1:1 too. I am very experienced at preparing students for exams and my knowledge of the exam processes and expectations is particularly strong.

I enjoy working with children who are struggling with maths. It is really rewarding to take a child who believes they can’t do maths to being a child who enjoys maths once they have that light bulb moment!

I began academic tutoring part-time, both online and face to face, at university. After university, I was lucky enough to be placed on an Erasmus+ fully funded placement for 3 months, where I taught English as a foreign language to Adults in Seville, Spain and gained my TEFL qualification, where I carried on tutoring part-time online. Furthermore, I have been teaching gymnastics to children since I was 15! After university I started working in an independent school and then I started specialising in maths and science tuition. So it feels like teaching is something I have always done and will always do!

I am an enthusiastic and friendly person and will encourage all my students to perform to the best of their abilities while having fun learning. I have the patience and ability needed to connect with my students and to find the best way to improve their understanding; each session is fully tailored to the individual student.

Fanta Sylla

I am a well educated, and qualified teacher with a great deal of experience as a French and Spanish Tutor/teacher in the UK.

I have been teaching French for private families since 2016. I have also taught at mainstream educational establishments in the UK, teaching a range of classes and levels within the MFL departments following the National Curriculum, including Key Stages 1-4, G.C.S.E. French, A-Level Language, A-Level French and Spanish.

Teaching is my calling and I love what I do. Whilst I am proud to train teachers and make them better at their jobs, I find teaching children directly most fulfilling. I find the relationships I build when teaching one-to-one really satisfying and thoroughly enjoy mentoring my students to encourage them to grow and develop into well-rounded children.

Jordy Fisher

Teaching Qualification, Stellenbosch University, ZA. ESL Qualification.

I'm thrilled to introduce myself as a qualified teacher hailing from the beautiful country of South Africa. Having relocated to the UK in 2022, I now have the privilege of working as a teacher at a reputable independent prep school in Clapham. i am currently working with KS1, however I also have experience with all other primary levels

I bring an assortment of experience to my role, having worked as both a teacher and a tutor throughout my career. In addition to my formal teaching experience, teaching the subjects on the National Curriculum, I also have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language. This variety of experience has provided me with a deep understanding of how to tailor my teaching methods to meet the unique needs and learning styles of each student.

Beyond my work in the classroom, I have also had the opportunity to work as a nanny, further enhancing my ability to connect with and support children in a nurturing environment. This additional experience has allowed me to develop a holistic approach to education, recognising the importance of fostering emotional well-being alongside academic growth.

I am particularly passionate about supporting children who are struggling at school and those with additional needs; focus difficulties and ADHD are an area I really like to support children with. I have had the privilege of supporting students with ADHD in both classroom and one-on-one settings, and I am dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all learners. Through personalised strategies and a focus on individual strengths, I strive to empower these students to reach their full potential.

I believe that education is not solely about imparting knowledge but also about instilling a love for learning and fostering critical thinking skills. With my diverse background, I am confident in my ability to provide engaging and effective tutoring sessions tailored to each student's unique requirements.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with your child, supporting their academic journey and helping them achieve their goals. I look forward to discussing how I can best support your child's educational needs.

Alejandra Mateo-Flandorfer

Applied Psychology Bsc, Durham University.

I was born and raised in Madrid, Spain, however at 14 I had the amazing opportunity to attend boarding school in the UK. I developed my love for British culture whilst I was there for two years, and when it was time to choose a university I decided to attend Durham University. I studied applied psychology, which has doubtlessly helped me very much during my tutoring career.

The subject I have tutored most has been Spanish, particularly at IGCSE level. I believe this is the syllabus that I am most confident in and have the most experience with.

My tutoring approach is simple and straightforward, I try to help my students develop the confidence they need to be able to bring out their full potential. I am very friendly, fun, and easy going. I try to make the lessons very interactive, where a lot of conversation takes place so they may loosen up and feel confident about the language. I prefer not to waste class time on writing on their own, so I tend to send simple assignments to do by themselves for our next lesson, and then we correct them together in the lesson.

I enjoy tutoring very much, and have always had a positive experience with all my students. We have set ambitious but achievable goals, and I believe both them and me have always been happy with the results.

Margaret Mulchrone

St Mary’s University, Twickenham Cert. Ed: English / Art; B.Ed: English / Education - London University; Dip. Ed: Teaching of English / Psychology; NPQH

I have been teaching English for over 40 years – all ages, all abilities in a variety of schools – single sex, mixed, independent, tutoring.

I loved being Headteacher for the last 8 years of my career and I continued to teach English alongside that role because my belief is that children make schools, not policies or programmes and I know that I can enable learners to be successful.

I am as energetic and passionate about teaching English as I was when I started and if I was asked if I would do it all over again, the reply would be a resounding ‘YES’.

I have learned more from the children over the years than I would ever have imagined or than they will ever know; it has truly been a journey of challenge, joy, laughter and success.

I love being with children, getting to know how they think and watching them learn and progress; I love the delight they experience when they are successful and the further confidence and self-worth that that brings.

There is no short cut to learning and though students sometimes find that difficult, it is exciting, dynamic and energising once they gain confidence and self-belief – I believe I am adaptable and have the necessary skills through a patient approach, which combines challenge and stretch to ensure success every time.

Becky Stamp

BA English Literature (high 2:1), University of Bristol.

I teach from KS1 to A Levels. l I teach all subjects at KS1 and LKS2,. At secondary level I teach just English, including for GCSE and A Level exams.

Every year I prepare numerous students for competitive school exams, from 7+to university entrance. I know the school requirements very well and I can therefore offer parents guidance about the best schools for their child. Schools I have prepared students for include, but are not limited to: Westminster, SPGS, St Paul’s School and Latymer.

Outside of tutoring I also work as a writer, As someone who loves reading and creative writing, I personally believe that all students have the capacity to engage in storytelling. It means a lot to me to see young people who initially felt disillusioned with studying English begin to appreciate it in some way or form, and use their personal responses to express ideas and perspectives that matter to them. I take a flexible approach to lessons, balanced with pre-planning and focus; I’ve found this combination works best in encouraging students to be spontaneous and creative while also ensuring our targets are met.

Tutoring is more than just teaching a subject: you get to know the student on a personal level and you therefore become heavily invested in their successes and their wellbeing. Drawing in part upon extensive safeguarding training received when working as a Mental Health Outreach Worker, I try my best to understand each student as an individual, tailoring my teaching to them specifically and also reflecting on how I could help them manage any anxieties they may have about upcoming exams/the learning process. I’m committed to positively influencing my students’ lives in whatever ways that I can, both academically and personally.

Corey Martin

MSc Social Science, University of London Birkbeck, UK; BSc Education, Edgewood College, US.

Hi, I’m Corey, and I’ve been teaching for over a decade, helping students to gain confidence and excel in mathematics. I started my career in special education in 2014, where I learned how to tailor my teaching to meet the unique needs of each student. Later, I spent seven years at the Denver School of Science and Technology, where I was honoured to lead the Math Department both at my school and across the network of schools.

What sets me apart is my ability to simplify complex mathematical concepts, transforming them into engaging, relatable lessons that build confidence and foster a love for learning. I’ve consistently helped students achieve measurable improvements, with many increasing their performance by over 35%. I use data-driven strategies and technology to personalize instruction, ensuring every student feels supported and challenged at their own pace.

If your child is preparing for exams, including 10+, 11+, 13+ or GCSE maths, I can provide tailored support to ensure they feel confident and ready for every challenge. I specialize in identifying areas of need, boosting understanding, and building a strong foundation for success.

I take pride in creating a positive, supportive environment where students can recognize patterns, solve problems independently, and experience those “aha” moments that make learning math truly rewarding. Whether your child needs help catching up, preparing for an important test, or building a stronger foundation in math, I’m here to support them every step of the way.

Let’s work together to help your child feel empowered and successful in their learning.

Susie Wilson

English Language and Literature BA, Oxford University; MTeach, London University; MA Creative Writing, Manchester Metropolitan University (Distinction).

I tutor English from KS2 upwards, preparing students for 11+, 13+, GCSEs and A-levels (including Uni entrance). My last English Language GCSE school class all achieved A*. I also teach Latin KS2 - KS3 and I coach speaking and debating. I am also a qualified teacher of Mindfulness for children.

As a practising poet, I love to help children to find their spark with creative writing. My style of teaching is clear and kind, fun-loving and encouraging.

I have taught for 10 years across the London Independent (including GDST) and state sectors, with responsibility for setting and marking entrance exams. I have in addition been responsible for improving English results across a group of 20 schools, Primary and Secondary. Accordingly, I have a good understanding of problems children face with English exams and methods to overcome them.

It is a privilege to me to get to know children 1:1, to help develop their unique intellectual curiosity and enable them to take steps forward for themselves. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student arrive at ‘I get it!’ with a smile.

Kat Delacorte

BA in History from Columbia University (New York), magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa

I tutor students from year 4 to adults. I work with students who are looking to improve their English skills and also those who wish to prepare for entrance exams. I prepare students for 10+, 11+ and 13+ English and verbal reasoning exams. I have 10 years of experience helping students thrive in the highly competitive environment of New York City's private schools. I was born in the United States, raised in Italy, and then returned to New York to finish my education, so I am well-versed in tutoring students from different academic and international backgrounds. In addition to teaching English , I also teach Italian and I have taught ESL in Italy and South Korea. I am bilingual in English and Italian.

My tutoring approach is to develop a unique entry point to the material based on each student's individual interests in order to increase engagement with subjects that may have traditionally presented challenges for them. As a children's fiction author with Penguin Books, I am especially passionate about helping students uncover their innate potential for English and writing, and I place a strong emphasis on building a student's academic confidence, while simultaneously fostering reliable study habits to help them excel at exams.

Esme Sanders

BA (Hons) Modern Languages (French & Spanish), 2.1, University of Oxford (2016-2020).

Hi, my name is Esme! I have 500+ hours’ experience of tutoring in subjects such as French, Spanish, English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing, Drama & Theatre Studies, Critical Thinking (all to A Level) English as an Additional Language (iGCSE), IELTS, 7+, 11+, 13+ and 16+. I have taught extensively over Zoom (in addition to Hyde Tutoring, I work for two tutoring agencies that specialise in online tutoring for students in Asia), and I have also worked with families all across the world, including in-person in both France and Spain – so I totally understand the need for flexibility in these contexts. I have assisted with the applications of various schools and universities internationally, such as Oxbridge and Ivy League colleges, and I have an incredibly in-depth knowledge of the school system across the UK.

I take a creative approach to my classes, and I enjoy adapting my lesson plans as to the academic requirements and personal requirements of each student. I strive to make my classes a warm and fun environment where learning feels like a pleasure and is interesting, while still having a strong understanding of the skills needed for students to flourish to their best potential.

I also keep in strong contact with parents throughout the duration of their child’s teaching experience, from providing homework to also extensive and regular feedback. I understand the importance of adapting and tailoring reports to each family and their child’s needs, and as a very communication-focused person, this is paramount to my practice as a tutor. Moreover, I am an incredibly organised individual who thoroughly arranges a full tutorial schedule in advance, after meeting a student and reviewing their first pieces of classwork and homework. I place a lot of emphasis on making a strategic plan which allows each individual tutee to develop their skills and technique.

Lily Seriki

Hi, I’m Lily! I’m a tutor based in north London with an undergraduate degree in Philosophy, Psychology and Linguistics from the University of Oxford, and a Screenwriting MA from the National Film and Television School. I'm patient, creative and I am always looking for ways to incorporate my students’ passions into my tutoring style, and to foster a fun, supportive learning environment, with sessions that feel as much like play as possible! I love building strong relationships with my students, and to watch their confidence grow in subjects they’ve previously found challenging.

In addition to tutoring I also work in a primary school with years 1, 2, 5 and 6. I provide 1-1 support in English and Maths to pupils with special educational needs such as ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. All my year 6 students exceeded their predicted scores in their SATs and increased their reading age by at least 3 years. In my current year 2 class, I focus on phonics, numeracy and literacy interventions for children with SEN as well as sessions with highly capable children who need stretching.

As I tutor, I primarily teach English and Maths to primary school aged children, both for entrance exams and for general support for SEND students. However I have also tutored GCSE English, and can teach English, Philosophy, Religious Studies and Classical Civilisation up to A-Level. My success at the Oxford University application process also means I can provide insight and support to students considering applying.

I teach children for entrance exams from 7+ to 11+. I went through the 11+ (I ended up at James Allen’s Girls’ School in Dulwich), so I have first hand experience of what the process is like and I can emphasise with my tutees. My teaching experience and personal experience of preparing for the 11+ has taught me just how important it is to focus plenty of time not just on subject knowledge, but also exam technique. Once a student has learned how to ‘crack the code’ of exam questions, and figure out exactly what each question is really testing them on, the whole process becomes a lot less daunting.

At the time of writing this, I am tutoring phonics to a 5 year old who has fallen behind due to hearing problems, core subjects to a set of Dyslexic and Dyscalculic 10 year old twins whose parents have taken them out of school due to lack of support, Maths and English to an Autistic year 7 student, and maths to a year 5 student in preparation for the 11+. This hopefully gives you a feel for the range of students I work with.

Outside of tutoring, I do work as a screenwriter. Some of my work has made it to theatres and TV and I have won awards, including the Popcorn Award.

Faaiza Munir

NPQLT (National Professional Qualification for Leading Teaching); PGCE Secondary English; BA (Hons) 1st Class in English Literature.

I have been teaching English for ten years and have worked in a variety of schools, including private schools, faith schools and inner-city comprehensives. As a result of this, I have no expectations of what a pupil has been taught, but I always have high expectations as to what they can achieve. I believe my experiences in a variety of educational establishments have helped me to learn how one resource can have multiple different meanings according to the person who is looking at it. As such, when teaching, I support pupils to think creatively as to how one text may fit into many areas or how one subject matter can be discussed in a variety of mediums. My teaching style is flexible, as I continually adapt my lessons and teaching practise to best fit who I am working with

I have also worked within tuition centres, alongside being a GCSE marker for an exam board. This has helped me become confident in how to relay the best exam techniques for GCSE English.

I can teach English from Year 5 up to GCSE. I am available to tutor online, as well as in person.

Kelvin Pusey

Diploma in Mathematics and Computer Studies, a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education, which amounts to seven years of studying mathematics.

I have also taught for fifteen years delivering maths across Key Stages 2 to 4 both in Jamaica, the United States of America and the UK. I prepare children from 11+ exams through to preparing students to study mathematics at university.

My role as an educator has also extended into leadership as I am a former Year 11 Achievement Leader and currently Deputy Head of Maths and Early Career Teacher (ECT) Mentor for Mathematics.

To say mathematics has always been a substantial part of my life is an understatement. My passion for the subject dates from my childhood days, when I was fascinated by my ability to manipulate objects and numbers whilst being intrigued by the intricacies of problem solving.

My passion for mathematical ideas heightened and evolved to the point where I decided that this was my chosen career path, despite the historical perception of maths being a challenging subject.

My teaching styles are adjustable and adaptable to ensure that each child learns and succeeds.

I have a passion for working with young children as this gives me an opportunity to develop in them not only the ability to solve problems but also develop a clear, conceptual understanding of mathematics and how it is applicable to real life.

Ned Costello

BSc Hons Politics & International Relations, University of Bristol, 1st Class Honours; MFA in Professional Acting from London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

I teach 7+ and 11+ English and Maths; I also teach 13+, GCSE & A Level English Language and Literature, A Level Politics and A Level Drama. I also help with any assistance needed for speaking and listening exams, or those who wish to improve their communication skills.

I have tutoring experience in English and Maths up to GCSE Level, and a CPD certificate teaching public speaking, communication skills, and LAMDA Examinations.

For a student to grow academically, confidence in their own capabilities is vital. This is why I’m passionate about tutoring. If you provide a student a platform to become assured in their talents, interests and goals, accompanied with hard work, they can thrive academically, as well as find enjoyment in learning. It is easy to feel lost, confused, or even held back whilst at school. Therefore, as a tutor, I firmly believe in listening to the student’s needs, and building personalised lesson plans according to what they may be struggling with. As a former drama student, I also believe in creativity, and try to create a fun learning environment for the student to enjoy themselves.

Grace Gamble

The Haberdashers' Aske's School, Elstree; Masters degree in Italian and English Literature at Edinburgh University; qualifying as a Secondary School Teacher at Cambridge University. Further Masters in Education Administration from Bath University.

My main job is as an English teacher at a leading HMC school in Oxfordshire. I also have a pastoral role as a resident house parent, I teach drama and run the school’s Cadet Force. I mention these things as I want to emphasise my interest in the holistic development of young people.  I like to work with the interests of students as I build up a strong tutoring relationship.

Before taking on my present position in 2021, I was a headteacher at various British and American schools around the world. I am familiar, therefore, with British and American systems of education and with application to US universities.  I have an international outlook and have a good command of French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.  I also ran a school in the UK for a number of years.  I think my role as a headteacher has put me in a great position to advise parents on the best schools and universities for their child and how to go about the application process. I also have experience of supporting children with interview preparation.

As a teacher, I have worked at maintained and HMC Schools in the independent sector in the UK. My experience as an English teacher has included being an examiner and preparing candidates for entry to the most competitive schools and universities in the UK and USA. My aim is to develop children’s confidence and enjoyment in using and analysing language and literature.  I know that pressure is on them; I believe they will cope better if they enjoy what they do!

Joe Sefton

Education at Cambridge University, achieving a first (I also received the 'outstanding academic achievement award for three consecutive years). I then went on to complete a Masters degree at LAMDA.

My students through Hyde Tutoring are all KS2 and KS3 students. Most of my students are preparing for 10+ and 11+ exams. I went through the 11+ process myself and then went onto a grammar school, this helps me to relate to what my students are going through. I also teach English to A Level.

I look to find more creative, less conventional methods of engaging students to ensure the student’s style of learning is met. I am a very empathetic teacher who is great at catering to each individual's needs.

I knows the entrance exams and the London schools very well. I also enjoy teaching exam technique (my own academic achievements and experiences in taking exams, no doubt help) and I can help students prepare for the interview side of the assessment process too.

Ellie Brown

PGCE, Secondary History, University West of England; MA, History - University of Bristol.

Hello! I am a dedicated and passionate teacher of History and for the past 12 years I have been committed to exploring as much as I can about the past in order to teach topics in a way that is fresh, diverse and profound.

Having taught for 12 years, I am always bowled over by the way students can inject new life into topics that I have become so familiar with. History is a challenging academic subject but it is also one that has the potential to open hearts and minds to the lives of others and create a real sense of empathy and passion for positive change.

Through my tutoring, I aim to instil a keen interest in the past and a lifelong appreciation for the subject. I am here to support and guide a student in understanding the course material, revision skills, exam skills and, more generally, honing their technique to answer questions with confidence and panache.

I have also been a Head of Year 10 and 11 so I am aware of the various pressure points and challenges which students can face, as well as particular learning pathways and styles for neurodivergent students.

A wonderful element of 1:1 tutoring is the quality time I can dedicate to each individual and I love celebrating the 'lightbulb moments' with them. Each session is a safe space for students to ask questions, receive guidance and explore their potential.

Sabya Raj

Medicine, UCL.

I have been tutoring students privately and for agencies for the past 5 years, teaching a range of subjects at many different levels as well as supporting students with applications to study. I tutor from 10+ through to A level. I teach maths and the sciences.

Having excelled in school (4A* at A level and 7A*s/5As at GCSE) as a result of targeted work and determination, I have used the knowledge and experience I have gained through both teaching and my time in education to support my students. My students have gone on to achieve multiple A*s and As at GCSE and A level as well as get places at prestigious universities, to study highly competitive courses.

Furthermore, I am a highly committed tutor who is capable of guiding a student’s studies over the long term; many of my students have been tutored by me for multiple years. Additionally, over the 4 years, I have come to appreciate how valuable a flexible and reliably available tutor is to students and parents alike. Thus I ensure that I am as flexible as possible with scheduling lessons and I have expanded my services to beyond the classroom by encouraging my students to ask questions and request help through WhatsApp, Google Classroom and Discord. Whether it be asking about future applications, homework or tests I ensure I am available to answer their queries.

University of Cambridge - BA Mathematics; Imperial College London - MSc Statistics; University of Oxford - DPhil Computer Science.

I have tutored students in Maths from 11+ to A-level. I keep up-to-date with examination syllabi and the requirements for achieving the marks for entry into top schools. I particularly enjoy being able to work with students who find maths challenging so that I can help to reveal new ways to interpret the material as well as to instil greater confidence in them when it comes to answering exam questions.

I also mentor students with their applications to Oxbridge Maths and have assisted with their personal statements, interview/test advice and general information about the course and university life.

Daniel Emery

I hold a BA in English from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics.

I teach: English from KS2 to A-Level; English, maths and reasoning for 11+ examinations; 13+ examinations (with a focus on English and reasoning); French to GCSE,; Drama from KS2 to A-Level,; Sociology at GCSE and A-Level, Politics at GCSE and A Level. I mainly focus on tuition to prepare students for exams. I also teach English as a foreign language to students.

I am an approachable and rigorous tutor. I have been tutoring for 6 years, working with students from ages five to eighteen. I work with students on entrance examinations, including private school scholarship papers. I also teach many GCSE and A Level students English Literature, English Language, Sociology and Politics. I am a native French speaker, and can help students to develop their confidence in the language. I can also support students transitioning from the French to English schooling system and vice versa. Lastly I teach EAL. I've mainly been working with students in China teaching English as foreign language and teaching English to French pupils.. I'm familiar with the Cambridge EAL tests.

My teaching helps students understand the underlying logic of the subjects and exams they are studying, so that they can fully meet examiners' demands. I aim to make my sessions fun and approachable - encouraging students to develop their self-esteem in academic learning.

Many of my students have had additional learning needs, including ADHD, dyslexia and ASD. I help them to achieve their best, and to understand how they can adapt their study to best suit their skillset.

Barnaby Tobias

Level 6 Diploma in professional acting from the Oxford School of Drama. A-Levels: English Language A*, Philosophy and Ethics A, Drama and Theatre Studies A, Psychology A (AS). Waldorf Steiner School pupil 97-2006.

I teach from 7+ to GSCE level, however my main emphasise is on primary school ages. I have experience in 7+ and 11 + entry exams and know the criterion well. I specialise in English and reasoning, but I’m also confident with maths and I am very familiar with the primary school syllabus. I’ve taught students with learning difficulties and have experience working with pupils who find it hard to cope in classroom environments. I consider myself highly energetic and full of patience, as well as having a good sense of humour and therefore a good match for younger children. Through my past jobs I have formed wonderful relationships with families and students, and keep in contact with one or two parents who like to keep me updated on their progress.

I find for 7+ and 11+ success, the student needs almost as much emphasis on the reading of the questions and a calm response to the exam, as on the learning of the required material. Therefore, I include short, thought-based exercises to help with focus and concentration, which can prove very useful in exam situations. I also bring unique exercises for developing handwriting, phonics, spelling, times tables, reasoning and more. I have a strong enthusiasm for creative writing, storytelling and grammar and like to adapt my lessons based on the independent need of every child.

My Steiner education helped me learn through oral and eye contact, not textbooks, I try to instil this practise alongside textbooks and screens to accommodate for all learning needs and give a different ‘flavour’ to the classroom. I often break up ‘heady’ sessions with bursts of play and physical activity (learning games), as I find attention spans can be rejuvenated with short, frequent breaks. My main aim is to bring a more rounded feel to learning, a personalised balance of play and study.

As well as tutoring, I am an actor and writer, founder of Mysterium Press (an independent poetry press) and the Marylebone Emerging Writers Group, based at the Marylebone Theatre, where I worked as a literary manager. I’ve had two plays performed and have worked as an actor for Netflix and The Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as others.

Josh Michalowski

MSc Economics, London School of Economics. BSc Economics, London School of Economics

I have been teaching for 5 years. I have predominantly supported students age 8-20 in Maths and Economics, teaching Maths up to A-Level and Economics to an undergraduate level. I have also assisted students in preparation for the 11+ and 13+ examinations (including Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.)

For older students, my teaching style is student-led. I ask students to relay any topics they are finding particularly difficult in a given week, and prepare tailored lessons according to those target areas. For younger students, who may find it harder to identify which areas they find difficult, I match my teaching with work they are doing in school to reinforce new content. I construct an open atmosphere in which students feel comfortable and free to ask any questions they have; I was made to feel embarrassed in school for asking questions in my own French lessons, so this is something that I think is important to mitigate against. I like to bring real-world applications to my lessons, to give context to topics which may at first appear abstract.

I love tutoring because of the direct impact it can have on a young person’s life, and seeing students develop both academically and in confidence is incredibly rewarding.

Hazel Reade

BA Hons Human Social and Political Sciences, University of Cambridge (1st).

I teach 7+ and 11+ English, maths and reasoning; I help with university applications and interviews, and I also have over a year of experience teaching English as a foreign language to both children and adults.

Throughout my time at university I acted as a tutor and mentor to first year students within my department, helping students improve their essay writing skills. I have a great awareness of university requirements both prior to and post application. As well as tutoring, I have over five years of nannying experience for primary school aged children. This has given me a great insight into the school curriculum requirements of each age group and how to foster engagement with homework in new creative ways, to adapt to the needs of each child. I have experience tutoring both online and in person, so I know how to make my lessons as engaging as possible using technology.

I am a focused and committed tutor who strives to make the lessons as fun and varied as possible. My aim as a tutor is to create a learning environment where I can inspire confidence in my students. I tailor my lessons to the students’ individual strengths and interests, both focusing curriculum and beyond. I love tutoring as I love sparking creativity in learning. It is always so rewarding seeing the progress of my students!

Alex Howarth

I believe in a calm and personal approach, and place huge importance on developing a friendly and relaxed rapport with the child. I set personalised goals for each child and work closely with the family to help the child achieve them. I enjoy helping a child build their self-confidence so they can be the best they can be.

I am particularly experienced with working with children with English as a second language, and have extensive experience working with disabled students. I specialise in entrance exam tutoring and the children I have tutored have subsequently been offered places at schools including Eton, Bute House, St Pauls Boys, Latymer, Westminster Choir School, Putney High, Lady Eleanor, The Bluecoat School, South Hampstead Junior School, The Study, Hampton School, Blackheath High, St Swithuns, St Dunstans, North London Collegiate School, Haberdashers Boys School, St Albans (scholarship), Merchant Taylors School (scholarship), Haberdashers Girls School, South Hampstead High School, St Helens School (scholarship), St Margarets Bushey (scholarship), Channing School, City of London School for Girls, Highgate School, Surbiton High, Ibstock Place School, Embly School (scholarship), King Edwards’ Witley and Aldenham.

Ola Hassan

University of Southampton, BSc Mathematics with Actuarial Science. University of Manchester, MSc Statistics.

I started tutoring in 2010. I specialise in helping children excel in exams, from the 10+ entrance exams all the way up to GCSE maths.

I believe that all children, no matter their age or ability, can achieve beyond expectations and this is why I am passionate about teaching. All children are unique with their own learning styles and I provide students with a personalised learning experience, as well as the additional support they need to reach their academic goals. My approach to teaching is to establish strong foundations and instil fundamental study skills that will serve them well academically and later in life. This will ensure that they become confident in their abilities and independent in their learning.

Rachel Poulton

B Ed (hons) English and Inter- Arts Bretton Hall, University of Leeds.

I have been teaching of 30 years in the Independent sector, state sector and overseas in the Middle East.

I loved working in the Independent sector and seeing children flourish and gain confidence in so many diverse ways. I was proud to be the Head of a thriving Middle School where, amongst many other roles, I oversaw the entrance exams and scholarships.

Keen to experience something new, I took a sabbatical and taught in the Middle East for a year. That year turned into 9 and I discovered a love of the IB PYP programme. The IB very much keeps children at the heart of the learning whilst recognising they are 21st Century learners who will require skills such as critical thinking, research and time management alongside subject knowledge.

I have been tutoring since 2021 and love it! It is the children that teach you how to teach as they are all unique. It is an opportunity to really make a difference in the lives of individuals. Building a great relationship with the child is absolutely key and then I dip into the years of experience and variety of teaching methods tweaking it according to the child so as to bring out their potential.

I have embraced technology - I am an Apple teacher and Certified Showbie Educator which helps me make online tutoring both fun and effective.

Jonny Shipton

MA in German, University College London. BA (Hons) Germanic Studies, University of Sheffield. PGCE in Modern Languages, University of Sussex.

I currently teach German at the London School of Economics and I taught previously at the University of Sheffield. I am an associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

When taking my A Levels in 2015 it was only when I had tutoring myself that I discovered my love for German, which happened when I realised that developing real fluency in German was genuinely achievable. After growing in confidence with the help of my tutor, I decided that I wanted to study German at university.

I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2020 with Class One Honours in Germanic Studies with Distinction in Spoken German. I received the German Embassy Book Prize for my examination results, as well as the Kemsley German Prize for best proficiency in the spoken language. I also received the Luxembourg Embassy Prize for my achievement in Luxembourgish Studies.

I trained as a German and French teacher at the University of Sussex and received my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) as well as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in June 2021. I achieved a Distinction (81%) in my PGCE with my research focussing on fostering spontaneous speaking in GCSE German lessons. During my training I taught KS3 and KS4 German, as well as KS3 French at a secondary school in West Sussex from October 2020 to May 2021.

Between October 2018 and May 2019, I lived and worked in a small town in Germany called Hilchenbach, where I taught English at the Gymnasium Stift Keppel with the British Council. Hilchenbach is in the middle of the Rothaarsteig mountain range, and my friends there travel around in a rickety old Volkswagen that they call the 'Angstwagen' (literally, a 'worry car') because they're always afraid it's going to break down! My favourite German city is Dresden, where I am on my profile picture. It's incredible how they've rebuilt the city exactly as it was before the bombing at the end of the Second World War.

My lessons are tailored to the skills that you most wish to develop in German, are well thought-out and highly engaging. I am particularly experienced in developing students' confidence in speaking, which was the focus of my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I also love teaching German grammar!

Tony Balazs

PGCE, Science, Goldsmiths College. MSc Molecular Biology, UCL. BSc Pharmacology, Sunderland.

I am a teacher of science and maths, from UKS2 (year 4/5) to A Levels. I work full time in a secondary school in North London and I also tutor. In the school I teach GCSE and A Level science. I have worked as a science teacher and a department head.

I prepare children for 11+ and 13+ exams, as well as for GCSE and A Level exams. I also support children who need some additional help with their schooling.

Many of the children I work with are struggling in the education system because of specific learning difficulties like dyslexia, ADHD or ASD. I have also worked as a counsellor and psychotherapy supervisor. Helping children who are finding it hard to cope with the challenges of a mainstream schooling environment is a particular interest and passion of mine.

I also really enjoy working with gifted and more able students, to stretch them and challenge them. One of the best things about tutoring is that you can cater to the level and needs of the individual, to ensure each student is working at their own pace and you can be part of helping them to achieve their personal goals.

Mark Walsh

I hold a first-class honours degree in Chemistry from Leeds University and a PhD in Chemistry from Oxford University. Additionally, I have a PGCE in Secondary Science Teaching from the University of Surrey.

I have been teaching Chemistry at GCSE and A Level since September 2000 and have been Head of Department since 2009.

I have taught at several independent schools, including Rugby School, Harrow School, and Bradfield College. Teaching has always been much more than just a job for me; I love helping individuals grasp chemical concepts that they previously found challenging.

Alicia Novak

Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from McGill University. Professional actress, in both English and French.

I have taught French to children, teenagers, and adults for over 10 years. My students have increased their confidence and improved their grades significantly through the lessons. I teach using drama, games and interactive grammar and vocabulary lessons and always tailors the sessions to the student’s needs, abilities and goals.

I grew up in Montreal, Canada and was educated in French from the age of four. Living and working in a bilingual city meant that I was always speaking both languages and can help students with conversational fluency as well as textbook correctness. I taught drama workshops in French for Theatre la Seizieme in Canada for four years, and have been tutoring students privately ever since.

Susannah Best

BA Hons, Goldsmiths University, 1st.

I have eight years tutoring experience, specialising in 7+ to 11+ exams, as well as secondary school English and drama. I teach English, maths, reasoning, interview preparation and drama.

Having worked in a variety of primary schools, teaching phonics and giving 1:1 support, I became extremely passionate about how personalised teaching can push students to exceed their expectations. This dedicated focus can enhance a child’s confidence in such a positive and productive way: it is always a pleasure to watch a student grow and achieve. I also have valuable experience working with SEN children; this has undoubtedly enhanced my ability to adapt and cater my teaching style to each individual.

I am passionate about drama and creativity. I use this personal enthusiasm for performance to cultivate a creative, engaging, energetic and ultimately fun learning experience for each of my students.

Previous students have gained places at Westminster, St Paul’s, Dulwich, Alleyns, JAGs, Kings College London, Sussex House and Laytmer and many more.

Bonnie Johnson

BA Primary Education, Australian Catholic University.

I am a primary school teacher originally from Australia and have been teaching in London for 5 years now. I have had experience in every year level from Reception-Year 6, as well as having experience teaching students with additional needs. I currently teach all subject areas across Year 3. I teach in a lovely school in East London.

I consider myself a calm yet motivated teacher who aims to create engaging lessons for all of my students. I have the ability to create and design innovative learning programs that support and encourage students of all backgrounds and abilities within the scope of current curriculum frameworks.

For me, the reason I love teaching is because of the relationships I get to build with the children I teach and watching them achieve and succeed to to best of their ability. I enjoy having the opportunity to foster a love of learning and encourage children to become confident, independent learners.

Marco Young

University of Cambridge, BA (Hons) English Literature, 1st/2:1. Fluent in French and Italian.

English at 10+ up to A level, Maths at 10+ up to GCSE. Reasoning for 10+, 11+ and 13+ exams, including Wandsworth and Lambeth Tests. English tuition is my main area of specialism. I have also taught Hyde Tutoring’s English 11+ courses and reasoning 11+ courses. Most of my students are preparing for 10 and 11+ exams, so I know all the schools and what is required for success inside out.

I am also fluent in French and Italian. I am able to teach English, French and Italian to students learning any of those languages.

I only teach online, so I am used to using technology to make lessons more engaging, memorable and enjoyable for my students.

I love the one to one focus that can be achieved with private tuition, something which is so often lacking in larger classes. I love encouraging students to come up with ideas and reach conclusions themselves, rather than simply providing answers; this is a much more fulfilling and beneficial experience. I like to maintain a relaxed but focused environment to put students at ease, particularly the younger ones. I am very easy-going but also focused and organised to reach students' goals!

I offer French tutoring to all ages. Having moved from the UK to Belgium as a young child, I am bilingual in French and English. I was educated in local French-speaking schools in Brussels.

I have previously tutored French to primary and secondary school ages. I am seeking to encourage and assist pupils to enjoy and achieve in their education, whilst creating an enjoyable, rewarding experience for both tutee and tutor. I have a very caring, yet practical approach to language tuition.

Whilst at school in Brussels, I won prizes for top grades across Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Latin. At university in Birmingham, I went on to receive the Head of School’s Commendation three years in a row, recognising students with the top 10% of grades across all undergraduate programmes. I have a very strong work ethic that I bring to tutoring and all the work I do.

I interact with children and young adults in an understanding, energetic and fun manner and love to experience the joy that comes from expressing yourself and being understood in another language!

Kate Early

Manchester University: BA(HONS) in English and Drama. King’s College London, PGCE English.

My track record of success in teaching manifests itself through the improved grades of my students in English at KS2, KS3 and KS4. I structure my teaching, both through resources and delivery, to provide each learner with the support and challenge they need to achieve. I work hard to create an inclusive learning environment.

I have worked as a tutor teaching students from the ages of 9-16. Prior to this, I worked in three local secondary schools teaching English at KS3 and KS4. I have been teaching for 20 years, including as a department head.

Jolyon Loy

BA (2.1) Modern & Medieval Languages, University of Oxford - Magdalen College; Graduate of National Opera Studio; MMus Opera, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; MA Vocal Peformance, Royal Academy of Music; A Levels (4xA); GCSEs (10xA*).

I am a private academic tutor with 10+ years of experience working both in the UK and internationally and I am also a professional opera singer. Having tutored primarily in London, pupils of mine have achieved places at many of the UK’s top independent schools. I have prepared students for scholarship tests and general entry to schools such as: Eton, Westminster, Winchester, Wycombe Abbey, Harrow, Winchester, St. Paul's Boys, Radley, Wetherby and Latymer Upper. I have also relished becoming part of numerous families on diverse residential jobs for international families all over the world, from Monaco to The Bahamas. On each I enjoyed becoming part of the family and a mentor/guide to my young pupils.

My philosophy on education is one based on the belief that schoolwork or preparation for an exam can be done without any stress or anxiety by adding to and building on an arsenal of mental tools with the aim to focus the mind. Learning how to approach an exam and what examiners are looking for, how to communicate, how to think clearly and objectively are skills as important to absorb as the subject material itself. I believe I am a good tutor in this regard because I aim to act as a mentor and guide, encouraging my tutees to be inquisitive and to expand their scope of thought.

I am confident in my ability to relate to and befriend children and I enjoy working towards finding a common language with them. I am their friend and buddy but also someone they must listen and answer to; a mode of relating I have found to be highly effective as it results in a relationship based on trust and respect between tutor and tutee. I have a kind, gentle and compassionate nature and use this to good effect when building a rapport with my tutees. Enjoying and trusting one’s teacher is essential to feeling open and willing to learn from them. I am from a close yet independently-minded family which has always valued education and communication; values which serve me well when integrating into a family. Coupled with that is a high level of attainment at school, university and in the arts so I am very familiar with the discipline it requires to achieve and aim to instill this in my students.

I grew up with tutors and nannies myself and look back fondly on the time they spent with me in my formative years. I realise how instrumental an instructive figure can be. Aside from singing and teaching I love to play tennis, ski and spend time with friends.

I offer tuition to children aged 7-13 years preparing for internal school exams, the 11+ and Common Entrance as well as 13+ entry and Scholarship tests to the UK’s top independent schools. I also offer interview preparation, revision support as well as general after-school support for any age. I teach English, maths, reasoning, French, Latin, Science, interview preparation, CAT4, piano, singing and music theory.

I have several years of experience tutoring pupils up to Year 10. I predominately tutor pupil’s age 7-11 in English, maths, reasoning and to help to prepare them for entrance examinations. In addition, I have thoroughly enjoyed tutoring younger pupils’ phonics and early reading. I have an excellent track record as a tutor and pupils tend to stay with me for a long time. I am skilled in communication, building strong relationships and use a variety of teaching methodologies to keep pupils engaged. As a tutor, I believe in focusing on the needs of the individual, breaking learning down, using interactive resources and essentially I believe that building each pupil’s confidence is key.

I regularly play in the British Chess Championships and have taught previous British Champions. I have over 20 years of experience as a chess teacher at all levels, from beginners to advanced.

This includes planning, memory aid, patterns, shape recognition and calculation. Therefore, helping with mathematics, art and science as well as all forms of forward thinking.

I find it rewarding to know I can assist in developing a child’s future life skills as their chess knowledge improves.

Wayne Rogers

My educational background includes a degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Education with a focus on research in dyslexia and bilingualism, including strategies to assist students in these areas. I have taught in a variety of international and UK schools, both state and independent, I currently am the Head of Psychology at an international school, following the UK curriculum.

As a highly qualified and experienced Psychology teacher, I am passionate about the subject and can demonstrate my ability to create engaging and interactive lessons for my students.

In my teaching style, I incorporate creativity and innovation by using tools such as virtual reality technology, role-playing, and play-doh to make learning more engaging. I also ensure that my lessons include thinking tools and moments of reflection that relate to the students' own lives. It is essential for students to understand the practical application of their studies in the real world, as it helps to contextualise challenging topics and deepen their understanding.

My commitment to meeting the students' needs is strong, and I tailor each lesson to suit them while also challenging them to achieve their full potential.

I look forward to the opportunity of working with you soon.
